Urine Drug Testing

Urine drug testing is a reliable, quick, and cost-effective method to detect both prescription and illegal drugs. The well-established testing method is widely used in pre-employment testing, health care centres and heavy industry such as mining and construction.

This simple test has a longer window of drug detection and can identify the presence of various substances. While the test is popular, accurate and painless, it certainly requires additional resources like bathroom facilities to conduct the test.

How we conduct urine drug testing

Our accredited technicians carry out the urine drug test with devices that are verified for performance to the required cut-off levels as per Appendix B of Australian Standard AS 4308-2008.

1

Candidate Identification

We start with gathering, validating and recording candidate’s identification.
2

Consent

We explain the urine drug screening process to the candidate and get a consent form signed.
3

Sample Collection

After the consent, the donor provides sample as per AS/NZS 4308 requirements.
4

Onsite Testing

Accredited Collector reads temperature and tests the sample for any adulterants. Onsite results are recorded in a permanent record.
5

Laboratory Testing

Should the onsite result be not-negative, samples are prepared, and additional paperwork completed for transport to laboratory.

FAQs About Urine Drug Test

How far back does a urine drug screen test?

Urine drug screen can detect the presence of drugs in a candidate’s system anywhere from 12 hours to 30 days, depending on the drug being tested. The detection window is also affected by the amount of drug being used by the candidate.

How long does instant urine drug test take to detect drugs?

Instant urine tests can detect the presence of drugs within minutes of being tested. In case the result is not-negative, the samples are sent to a NATA Accredited laboratory for confirmation, which can take 24–48 hours.

What can show up on a urine drug test?

A urine drug test can detect a number of drugs, depending on the type of the test being conducted. Typically, a urine drug test can detect some of these six common substances: amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methamphetamines, opiates, and THC (marijuana).

What can cause a false negative urine drug test?

Sometime, the substance is present in such a small quantity that it can go unnoticed in the test. Or the drug hasn’t yet been absorbed by the urine. That is why we recommend a confirmatory test in a NATA accredited laboratory to ensure that the results are accurate.

Are Relevant's drug testing technicians appropriately qualified under AS/NZS 4308:2008?
